Sometime in 2018 — no one is quite sure exactly when or where though — the Chinese space station Tiangong-1 will come crashing down from its degrading orbit. It seems they unintentionally lost contact/control of it sometime after it’s last use in 2016. Currently, they are predicting a 1 in 10,000 chance that debris falls in a populated area. Getting hit by something falling may not be the only danger though as the rocket fuel that might survive the descent intact is pretty toxic stuff.
This situation somewhat parallels our political situation as I see it. There is a descent orbit with a too-high-for-comfort chance of some real damage on impact but hope that with so many systems tracking it the collateral damage can be minimized.
I guess only time will really tell, but let’s work to make 2018 a shift back towards increased national sanity and stability. I’m certainly interested in doing my part for that. I hope you’ll join me too.
